Francis is a South African Actor living and working from Cape Town. At 23, Francis landed his first lead in the international feature film Crook: It's Good to Be Bad (2010), directed by Mohit Suri for 'Vishesh Films [In]', Bollywood. He plays the young, rough-tough antagonist of the film set in Melbourne, Australia. Francis impressed Bollywood producers Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt at an impromptu audition in Cape Town, South Africa while they were on a location recce. Francis had less than 24 hours to prepare and without the access to the script nailed the audition with Heath Ledger's 'agents of chaos' monologue from Dark Knight. Two weeks later he had secured the role and shot for two months both on location in South Africa and in studios in Mumbai, India. Francis plays opposite Bollywood stars Emraan Hashmi and Arjan Bajwa in an action packed drama about the racial conflict between South Asians and Australians in Melbourne. Francis did (almost) all his own stunts, and even had a kissing scene with a bollywood babe, Smiley Suri. The film was released internationally in October 2010.In 2011 Francis was one of the few South African Actors to join Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby in 'DNA Films [gb]' screen adaptation of the Judge Dredd comic. Directed by Pete Travis with Cinematography by Oscar winner for Slumdog Millionaire (2008) Anthony Dod Mantle, this was the first international feature film to shoot at the new Cape Town Film Studios. In preparation for the audition Francis worked with LA-based accent coach Claudette Roche over Skype to master the American accent required.Francis trained at the University of Cape Town, receiving his four year Bachelors degree is Acting 'Cum Laude' in December 2010. Francis won a number of awards including class medal in acting and movement in 2008 and 2009 respectively. Trained in both theatre and film, his most recent professional theatre experience includes a lead part in Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew, directed by Roy Sargeant for Artscape at the prestigious Maynardville Open Air Theatre in Cape Town; South Africa's Shakespeare-in-the-park.Francis is represented in Cape Town by the 'Samantha Bernhardi Artists Management [za]' and in Johannesburg by 'Moonyeenn Lee Associates [za]'.
